Christal McDonald, RPR, CSR (Iowa)I am from Norfolk, and I am the Immediate Past President of NeCRA. I've been a court reporter for 34 years. I graduated from court reporting school at Lincoln School of Commerce in 1990. I was a freelance court reporter for my first 30 years. My career as a freelance court reporter started in Omaha and then we moved to Norfolk to start our family. I ran my own freelance firm until 2018. In 2018 I started my official court reporting career for the Seventh Judicial District with Judge Mark Johnson. We cover seven counties in Northeast Nebraska, so there is a bit of travel involved in the job. I've lived in Nebraska all my life. My husband, Brian, and I have raised two boys, Blake and Alex. The boys are out of the house, and we are empty nesters now except for the dogs. We are avid campers and boaters up at Lewis and Clark Lake in Yankton, SD. I enjoy running the trails with our two dogs, Toby and Huey, when I get a chance. I've also been an instructor at the Norfolk YMCA for 25 years. I've taught just about every modality out there from step aerobics, Body Pump, yoga and cycling. My focus lately has been coaching cycling several classes a week. I've loved being a court reporter all these years and enjoy the challenges of keeping up with technology and always learning new things. Being on the NeCRA board these last few years has been very rewarding, seeing our membership work together to advance our profession. I'm excited to see what the future holds. |
