DEBI PATZNER, CSR (KANSAS)
I grew up in Omaha and graduated from Benson High School. A rep from Brown Mackie College in Salina, Kansas, came to our school and showed me the steno machine and said I could make a lot of money. So off to Salina, Kansas, I went after graduation. School took me three years, but I was only seventeen when I left for college. During my studies I met my husband and moved to the middle of Kansas. I got my first job as an official reporter in March of 1983. I also got married in March of 1983. It was a rural district court that covered six counties. I stayed there for 32 years, through four district judges, hundreds of trials and raising two sons. I retired and took a part-time job at an attorney's office. In 2016, I was back in Omaha for my mom's 75th birthday party and saw an ad for a court reporter in Douglas County. I was remarried at the time and both boys had flown the coop. I got the job with Judge Pankonin in Douglas County and started in September of 2016. My first day on the job was a first-degree murder trial. While I loved the job and all of the wonderful people, I decided to slow down a bit. I now work part-time in Sarpy County Juvenile Court. Three of us job share for two judges. Two weeks on and a week off. It is the perfect setup for this grandmother! I love reporting and am very proud of what we can do. I'm not ready to retire completely because I love my job. I look forward to being on the board and promoting our profession that has served me well for over 40 years! |
